# How do download approval and access requests work?

Require approval to download in a brand's Settings tab, then give access or reject each request in its Requests tab.

Download approval lets you decide who can download from a brand page. When it is on, visitors send an access request, and you give access or reject it from the brand's **Requests** tab. This article covers how to turn it on, what the visitor sees, and how to handle each request.

## Turn on download approval

Open the brand from [Brands](/dashboard/brands), then open the **More actions** menu and choose **Edit**. In the brand editor, open the **Settings** tab and turn on **Require approval to download** in the **Downloads** card. Approval covers the whole brand page, not single files, so every download from that page waits for your decision. Members of your workspace team can always download.

## What the visitor sees

With approval on, visitors see **Request access** instead of **Download**. The **Request access** dialog asks for their name and email. Company is optional. Once they send it, the dialog confirms that the brand will email them a link when it is approved.

If the same email asks again for the same brand within 24 hours, the visitor sees the same confirmation, but no new request is added and you are not notified again. One internet connection can send up to 5 requests for one brand in an hour.

## Give access or reject a request

To decide on a request:

1. Open the brand and its **Requests** tab. A dot next to the tab name means some requests are pending.
2. Click the menu at the end of the request's row.
3. Choose the action that fits the request:

- **Give access** on a pending download request. Tarkle emails the visitor the link, and the screen shows "Access given. An email is on its way."
- **Accept** on a pending view request. It marks the request approved and does not open the page (see the view section below).
- **Reject** on a pending request. The visitor gets no email.
- **Revoke access** on an approved request. It takes back the unlock.
- **Delete** removes the request from the list.

A rejected request can be approved later from the same menu, so a decision can be changed.

## What the visitor receives

After you give access, the visitor gets an approval email. Its link opens the brand page and unlocks downloads in the browser where it is opened, for one year. The link does not expire on its own, and anyone who opens it gets the unlock in their own browser, so send it only to the person you approved. **Revoke access** ends the unlock in every browser that holds the link. If the email cannot be sent, the request stays approved and the screen says "Approved, but the email could not be sent".

## View requests

A view request comes from a brand page that is not public, such as a password protected page. The access types are set out in [Who can open a brand page?](/help/branding/who-can-open-a-brand-page). **Accept** marks the request approved, but it does not open the page for the visitor. To let them in, share the password, or assign the brand to them as described in [How do I share a brand page with a client?](/help/branding/share-a-brand-with-a-client).

## Email and Slack notifications

The owner of the workspace is emailed once for each new request. If Slack is connected to the workspace and the Slack notification for brand page downloads is on (or the one for views, for view requests), a Slack message with the visitor's name, company and email goes to the channel you chose. Connect Slack on [Integrations](/dashboard/settings/integrations). Slack needs the Pro or Agency plan. Compare the plans on the [pricing page](/pricing).

Next, open a brand's **Requests** tab and review the pending requests.
