# How do I use my own domain for a brand page?

Add a domain to a brand page from the Domains page, then set the DNS records Tarkle shows you.

A brand page can open on a domain of its own, such as brand.yourdomain.com. Each brand has one domain. Save the brand first with [How to create a brand page](/help/branding/create-a-brand-page), because you choose the brand when you add its domain.

## Plans

Pro and Agency can connect a domain to each brand page, and Agency includes everything in Pro. Free includes a custom domain for the workspace, but it does not include brand page domains. See [Tarkle plans and pricing](/pricing) for what each plan includes. [Brand page plans and limits](/help/branding/brand-page-plans-and-limits) lists the brand page limit of each plan.

## Add a brand page domain

Domains are set per workspace. Only a workspace owner, or a team member whose role can add, edit and delete settings, sees the **Add domain** button.

1. Open [Domains](/dashboard/settings/domains) in the workspace that holds the brand.
2. Click **Add domain**.
3. Click **Brand page domain**, then click **Continue**.
4. Type the domain, for example brand.yourdomain.com. Tarkle removes https:// from what you type, and it asks you to remove www before it continues.
5. Under **Brand**, click **Select a brand** and choose the brand.
6. Submit the form. The dialog shows **Verifying** with your domain and, when Tarkle has records for it, a table of DNS records.
7. Add the records at your DNS provider, then click **Refresh / check**.

When the domain is active, the dialog closes and Tarkle shows "Brand domain verified and connected."

## DNS records

A subdomain such as brand.yourdomain.com gets one CNAME record. A bare domain such as yourdomain.com gets A records. A TXT record for ownership appears only while ownership is still pending, so add it when it is listed. Add the records exactly as the table shows them.

## Statuses and checks

The dialog and each brand domain's details show one of three statuses:

- **Pending**: the domain is not connected yet. Add the records, then check again.
- **Action required**: the record that points the domain at Tarkle needs fixing.
- **Active**: the domain is verified and connected.

Each brand domain's details include a **Refresh** button. If Tarkle cannot reach its hosting provider when you refresh, it says it could not check this domain, that your settings are unchanged, and to try again in a few minutes.

## What the domain serves

The brand page opens at the root of the domain: brand.yourdomain.com shows the page, and brand.yourdomain.com/mark-usage shows the mark usage terms. Only this brand's page opens on the domain.

Search engines index a brand page only when it is public and not a draft. To control who can open the page, see [Who can open a brand page?](/help/branding/who-can-open-a-brand-page). The domain's sitemap lists the home page and /mark-usage only while the brand is indexable.

## When the brand is not live yet

A brand that is a draft, or whose **Access** is **Restricted**, is not live. When a visitor opens its domain, they see a page titled Not live yet. The page says "This page is not available right now. Please check back later." It answers with a 404 status, shows no brand details and is kept out of search engines. The same page answers every address on the domain.

To make the page open on its domain, make the brand public:

1. Open [Brands](/dashboard/brands) in the workspace that holds the brand, and choose the brand.
2. Open the **Settings** tab. In the **Access** section, choose **Public** from the **Access** menu. The menu does not offer **Restricted** unless the brand already uses it, so choose **Public** to replace it.
3. If the top bar shows **Draft** with a **Publish** button, click **Publish**. On a brand that is already published, click **Save changes**.

Once the brand is published and its **Access** is **Public**, the brand page opens on its domain. To read what each access setting means for visitors, see [Who can open a brand page?](/help/branding/who-can-open-a-brand-page).

## Change or remove a domain

Open the row menu of the brand domain and click **Edit** to change the domain or the brand, then click **Save**. A brand has one domain, so saving a new domain for a brand that already has one replaces the saved domain. When you change to a new address, Tarkle removes the old address from its hosting after the new one is attached.

To remove a domain, open the row menu and click **Delete**. Tarkle removes the domain from its hosting first, and deletes it from the brand only after that succeeds. If the removal fails, the domain stays in the table and Tarkle shows the error. Deleting a brand also detaches its domain from Tarkle's hosting.

## Refused domains

Tarkle refuses a domain that another brand page already uses, with the message "This domain is already assigned to another brand page." It also refuses a domain that another part of Tarkle already uses, and a domain that includes www.

## What happens next

When the status is **Active** and the brand is published with **Public** access, the brand page opens on your domain. To give a client access to it, see [How do I share a brand page with a client?](/help/branding/share-a-brand-with-a-client).
