# Who can open a brand page?

Choose Public or Password protected in a brand's Settings tab to decide who can open its brand page.

Every brand page has one access setting, and it decides who can open the page. You set it in the brand editor, on the **Settings** tab, in the **Access** section. Your team can open its own brand pages whatever the setting is.

## Public

Anyone with the link can open a public brand page. Search engines can index it once it is published. The **Access** menu describes this choice as "Anyone on the internet with the link can view".

## Password protected

Choose **Password protected**, then type the password in the **Password** field that appears. Share the password yourself with the people who should see the page. The menu describes this choice as "Only people with the password can view it".

Visitors see the brand name, a **Password** field and an **Unlock** button. A wrong password shows "Incorrect password". Tarkle allows 20 password checks per brand from one internet connection in an hour. After that, the page answers "Too many attempts. Try again later." A visitor who enters the right password stays unlocked in that browser for 30 days. If you change the password, every visitor has to enter the new one. Your team is never asked for it.

## Restricted

**Restricted** is an older setting. The **Access** menu shows it only on a brand that already uses it, so you cannot switch a Public or Password protected brand to Restricted.

A restricted brand opens for the contact or the organization members it is assigned to, and for your team. Anyone else sees "{brand} is private" with a form to request access. A restricted brand with nobody assigned opens only for your team.

To assign a brand, turn on **Assign this brand** in the **Settings** tab and choose the person or organization under **Contact or organization**. On a restricted brand, the assigned person opens the page when signed in with the account of that contact, or of a member of that organization. On a Public or Password protected brand, assigning gives no extra access. To show a brand in a client's portal, see [How do I share a brand page with a client?](https://tarkle.com/help/branding/share-a-brand-with-a-client).

## Requests from visitors

On a password protected or restricted brand, a visitor can send a request with **Request access**. The form asks for **Your name** (optional), **Your email** (required) and **Why do you need access?** (optional). Each internet connection can send 5 requests per brand in an hour. A second request from the same email within 24 hours is recorded once. You get an email about each new request.

A request does not open the page by itself. To let the person in, assign them on a restricted brand, or share the password with them on a password protected brand.

## Search engines and link previews

Search engines can index only a public brand page that is published. Password protected, restricted and draft pages are marked so that search engines leave them out. When a password protected or restricted link is pasted into a chat, the preview shows only your workspace's name and image, never the brand. A pasted draft link shows no preview.

## Downloads

The files on a brand page follow the same access as the page. A visitor who cannot open a password protected or restricted brand cannot download its files either. The **Require approval to download** switch under **Downloads** adds a request step for downloads. See [How do download approval and access requests work?](https://tarkle.com/help/branding/download-approval-and-requests).

## What happens next

Open [Brands](/dashboard/brands), choose the brand and go to its **Settings** tab to change who can open it. Brand pages belong to a workspace, so open the workspace where the brand lives.
