# File requests in Tarkle: how to collect files from clients

Create a file request, copy its link, and receive client uploads in a folder of your workspace.

A file request is a branded upload page that you send to a client, or to anyone else who needs to send you files. The person uploads straight into a folder of your Tarkle workspace. This article covers how to create a request, share its link, what the uploader sees and where the files are saved. To learn the basics first, read [What are file requests in Tarkle?](/help/file-requests/what-are-file-requests-in-tarkle-2).

## Create a file request

Each file request belongs to one workspace. Create it in the workspace where the files should land.

1. Open the [file request list](/dashboard/requests).
2. Click **New request**.
3. In the **Create new request** dialog, enter a **Title**, for example Project assets or Campaign materials.
4. Enter a **Description** that says which files you need.
5. Under **Folder for uploaded files**, search for a folder or pick one from the list.
6. Click **Create request**.

Tarkle shows **Request created**, and the request appears in the list. Two more fields are optional. Under **Deadline**, pick a date from tomorrow up to three years from today, or click **Clear** to remove it. **Send email notifications when files are uploaded** is checked by default. Clear it if you do not want an email for each upload. If you do not pick a folder, the files go to the **File requests** folder.

## Share the link

Open the menu on the request's row in the list and click **Copy URL**. Send that link to the person who should upload. Every request created in this form is public: anyone with the link can open it and upload, without a Tarkle account.

## What the uploader sees

The upload page shows your workspace logo (the Tarkle logo when none is set), your workspace name, the request title and your description. Below them is an upload area that says Drag and drop here or click to upload. After choosing files, the uploader sees the **Files ready to upload** dialog. They enter a **First name** and an **Email**, and **Last name** is optional. They click **Upload**. The page then confirms that the files were uploaded and offers **Upload more**. The uploader also gets an email saying that your workspace received the files.

## Where the files are saved

Files are saved in a sub-folder named after the request title, inside the folder you picked. You can organize them with [File and folder management in Tarkle](/help/storage/file-and-folder-management-in-tarkle). If email notifications are on, the workspace owner gets an email for each upload. Its subject names the uploader and the number of files.

## Deadlines, closing and plan limits

A request stops accepting files when its deadline passes. Closing a request has the same effect. Open the row menu and click **Close request** to close it, or **Open request** to open it again. A closed request, or one past its deadline, no longer opens its upload page.

On the Free plan, an organization can have one active file request at a time. A request with no deadline, or with a deadline still ahead, counts as active, even when it is closed. At the limit, the **New request** button is disabled. Pro has no limit on active requests, and Agency includes everything in Pro. A file can be up to 1 GB on Free and up to 200 GB on Pro. Agency also supports files up to 200 GB. Compare the plans on the [pricing page](/pricing).

## Use cases

- **Agencies collecting client assets**: ask a client for logo files, brand guidelines or photos before a project starts.
- **Law firms receiving documents**: say in the **Description** which documents you need. The files are saved in a sub-folder named after the request title.
- **Freelancers collecting source files**: ask for reference images or revision notes in one place instead of an email thread.
