# How to create a Tarkle account

Create a Tarkle account with your name and email, then confirm it with the 6-digit code Tarkle emails you.

A Tarkle account is your personal login. You create it with your name and email address, then confirm the address with a 6-digit code, so there is no password to choose. You create a workspace after you sign in, and it holds your files.

## Create your account

1. **Open the sign-up page.** Go to [tarkle.com/sign-up](https://tarkle.com/sign-up). The page is titled "Create a free account".
2. **Enter your name.** Type it in the Full name field.
3. **Enter your email.** Type the address you want to sign in with in the Email field. Tarkle refuses an address that contains a plus sign. It also refuses addresses on some email domains, with the message "This email domain is not allowed".
4. **Click Continue with email.** Tarkle checks that the address is not already in use, creates the account and emails the code to it.
5. **Open the email.** The subject is "Sign up to Tarkle". The 6-digit code is in large type in the message.
6. **Type the code.** The screen is titled "Check your email" and reads "Enter the code we sent to finish creating your account". Type the six digits. The form submits when you type the sixth digit, or you can click Continue.

A security check runs in the background. If the form says "Please complete the CAPTCHA verification", wait a moment and click Continue with email again.

You can also click the Google button under the divider on the sign-up page instead of typing an email address. That button does not appear when your name and email are already filled in, such as when you open sign-up from an invitation.

If the address already has a Tarkle account, the form shows "User already exists". Use the Sign in link under the form, or read [How to sign in to Tarkle](/help/getting-started/how-to-sign-in-to-tarkle).

### Limits for new accounts

On the live site, one account can be created for each internet address (IP address). If the form shows "Maximum accounts reached for this IP address", an account was already created from your connection. Sign-up is also refused from a VPN, a proxy or a datacenter connection, so turn the VPN off and try again. The form allows 5 sign-up attempts from one connection in 5 minutes. After that it shows "Too many signup attempts. Please try again later."

## If the code does not arrive

The code is valid for 10 minutes and works once. Check your spam or junk folder. If it is not there, click Resend code to get a new one. Each new code replaces the one before it, so use the newest email. If you typed the wrong address, click Change email to go back to the form.

Resend code can be used up to 4 times for one address in 10 minutes. After that the screen shows "Too many attempts. Please try again in a few minutes." A wrong code shows "That code did not work. Check it and try again." After 5 wrong codes from one connection in 10 minutes, that connection has to wait a few minutes. After 30 wrong tries for the same code, the code stops working and the screen says "Too many wrong codes. Ask for a new one." Click Resend code to get a new one.

## What happens next

When the code is accepted, your email address is confirmed and you are signed in. Tarkle opens your [dashboard](/dashboard). The dashboard may open the Create workspace dialog straight away. If it does not, it shows "No workspaces yet." with a New workspace button, and you click that button. In the dialog, type a name in the Name field, choose a region in the Data residency field, and click Done. Data residency is set for each workspace in this dialog. If you opened sign-up from an invitation, the address is the one the invitation was sent to, and Tarkle takes you to accept the invitation.
