# How to charge for access to a transfer

Charge for a transfer so recipients pay through Stripe before they can download the files.

Charge for a transfer so recipients pay through Stripe before they can download the files. The money goes to your own Stripe account. Paid transfers are a Pro feature, so the setup below needs your organization on Pro. You can compare the [plans and pricing](/pricing) first.

## Turn on paid transfers

Two settings must be in place before you can charge for a transfer. On the Free plan, the **Enable paid transfers** switch is locked with a Pro badge, and [how to upgrade your organization from Free to Pro](/help/billing-subscription/how-to-upgrade-from-free-to-pro) explains the move.

1. **Connect Stripe.** Open [Integrations](/dashboard/settings/integrations) in **Settings** and connect Stripe with its publishable key, secret key and webhook signing secret. Stripe counts as connected only when all three are saved.
2. **Turn on Enable paid transfers.** On the **General** tab in **Settings**, turn on **Enable paid transfers**. The switch is off until you turn it on, and it saves as soon as you change it. Only the workspace owner can change it.

**Payments** appears in the sidebar once the switch is on and Stripe is connected. Turning the switch off hides Payments in the sidebar and stops new paid transfers. Links you already sent keep working for buyers.

## Create a paid transfer

1. Open the **New Transfer** modal and add your files, as described in [How to create a file transfer](/help/file-sharing/how-to-create-a-file-transfer).
2. Enter a title, which is required. You can add a summary of up to 150 characters.
3. Tick **Charge for download**.
4. Enter the price, and choose the currency. Tarkle accepts only the currencies Stripe supports.
5. Submit the transfer. Tarkle creates it and shows you the shareable link.

A paid transfer cannot use a password, burn after read, an email check, view only or an expiration date. If one of these is set, Tarkle refuses to create the transfer. A direct link is not kept either: a paid transfer uses the standard download.

Paid audio transfers have their own download settings. [What is an audio transfer page?](/help/video-transfer/what-is-an-audio-transfer-page) explains how previews and paid downloads work on the audio page.

## What happens next

Recipients pay through a Stripe payment form when they open the link. The payment goes to your own Stripe account.
