# Move storage between workspaces

Move unused plan storage between two workspaces you own on the Pro plan, one move per workspace.

If you own more than one workspace on the Pro plan, you can move unused plan storage from one of them to another. Only the storage moves: your files stay where they are. Use this when one workspace has storage it does not need and another workspace needs more.

For example, if workspace A and workspace B each have a 3 TB limit and 1 TB of A's storage is free to move, you can move that 1 TB to B. A then has a 2 TB limit and B has a 4 TB limit.

## What you need

- You must be the owner of both workspaces. Only the owner can move storage.
- Both workspaces must be on the Pro plan. Workspaces on other plans cannot take part.
- The workspace you move storage from has a storage limit of 3 TB or more.
- Your account has an authenticator app or a passkey turned on. To turn one on, open [Account](/dashboard/account) and go to the multi-factor section, or follow [How to turn on two-step sign-in or a passkey](/help/account/how-to-turn-on-two-step-sign-in-or-a-passkey).

## How much you can move

The amount you can move is the storage in the workspace that is not in use. Storage used by files, and storage a Team has reserved or uses, stays with the workspace. Read [How team storage works in Tarkle](/help/storage/how-team-storage-works-in-tarkle) to learn more about Team storage.

Storage granted to a workspace, such as storage added by Tarkle support or redeemed referral rewards, stays where it is and cannot be moved.

Amounts are whole GB, and the smallest move is 1 GB. In the **Amount** field you can choose GB or TB. 1 TB is 1,000 GB. The amount cannot be more than the amount available.

## One move per workspace

Each workspace can send or receive storage once. After a move, neither workspace can take part in another move, so a move cannot be sent back.

## How to move storage

1. Open the Billing page of the workspace you want to move storage from. In the **Storage** row, select **Move**.
2. In the **Move storage** dialog, confirm it is you. If you have an authenticator app, enter its 6-digit code in **Authenticator code** and select **Confirm**. If you have a passkey, select **Use a passkey**. If neither is turned on, the dialog says "Turn on an authenticator app or a passkey to move storage." Select **Set up** to open your account settings. If the code does not work, the dialog shows "That code did not work. Try the next one."
3. Open **Move to** and choose the workspace that receives the storage. Your other workspaces are listed. Workspaces marked **Not eligible** cannot be chosen. Closed, deleted and suspended workspaces are not listed.
4. Enter the amount in **Amount** and choose GB or TB. The amount available appears as a badge at the top of the form.
5. Select **Move storage**.

The dialog then shows how much storage moved and the new storage for both workspaces. Select **Done** to close it.

## Your receipt

Tarkle emails the address on your account with the subject "You moved 1 TB of storage to Workspace B", for example. The email says only the storage moved, and it lists the new storage for both workspaces. Its **View receipt** button opens [Invoices](/dashboard/settings/billing/invoices).

## Why is Move greyed out?

The **Move** badge is greyed out when:

- the workspace is not on a paid plan,
- its storage limit is below 3 TB,
- it has already sent or received storage.

Inside the dialog you may see these messages instead:

- This workspace has already used its one storage move.
- There is no plan storage in this workspace that can be moved. Granted and referral storage stays where it is.
- The dialog says there is no other workspace on the Pro plan to move storage to.
- This workspace has unlimited storage, so there is nothing to move.
