# Why Tarkle may be temporarily unavailable

When Tarkle has a problem, pages can fail or uploads can stop, and this shows how to check the status.

This page explains what the error page and the upload messages mean, where to check the current status, and what to do next.

## What you may see

When a page fails, you may see a page titled **Something went wrong**, with an error code and two buttons, **Try again** and **Contact support**. **Try again** reloads the page.

During an upload, Tarkle can show a message instead of finishing. Two of them are "The upload failed. Please try again." and "The upload is taking longer than expected to finish. Please check your files shortly."

## Check the current status

Tarkle shows its status in two places.

- The footer of tarkle.com shows a status line. It reads All systems operational, Degraded performance, Partial outage, Major outage or Maintenance in progress, and it refreshes every 60 seconds. Clicking it opens [status.tarkle.com](https://status.tarkle.com/) in a new tab.
- In the dashboard, open the account menu and choose **Service status**. It opens the same status page.

The status page lists ongoing incidents and maintenance in progress.

## What to do

1. Check the status line in the footer of tarkle.com, or open **Service status** from the account menu.
2. Wait until the status shows All systems operational.
3. Reload the page, or click **Try again** on the **Something went wrong** page.
4. Once the service is back, start the upload again. To share the files, follow [How to create a file transfer](https://tarkle.com/help/file-sharing/how-to-create-a-file-transfer).
5. If the problem continues after the status shows All systems operational, contact support. Use the Support link in your [dashboard](/dashboard), or email support@tarkle.com. [How to contact Tarkle](https://tarkle.com/help/about-tarkle/how-to-contact-tarkle) explains each way. On the **Something went wrong** page, **Contact support** opens an email to support@tarkle.com with the error code filled in.
