Charge for a transfer so people pay before they can open or download the files. You set the price, and the money goes straight to your own Stripe account.
Paid transfers need two things switched on: Stripe connected, and Enable paid transfers. If either one is off, the Charge for download option does not appear when you create a transfer.
Before you start
Connect Stripe. Go to Settings → Integrations → Payments → Stripe and add your live keys and webhook signing secret. See Share files and get paid with Stripe.
Enable paid transfers. Go to Settings → General → File settings and turn on Enable paid transfers. It is off by default.
Turning on Enable paid transfers also adds Payments to your sidebar, where you can see what each paid transfer has earned. Turning it off hides that page and stops new paid transfers. Links you already sold keep working for buyers.
Create a paid transfer
Click Share to start a new transfer. The window has three steps.
Title is required. It becomes the name of the product in Stripe, and the heading your buyer sees.
Summary is optional, up to 150 characters, with a live counter. It becomes the product description.
Price: a number such as 29.99.
Currency: your workspace currency is selected, and you can change it to any currency Stripe supports.
What turns off when you charge
Payment is the gate, so these options are switched off and cleared while Charge for download is ticked:
Option | Why |
Gated (ask for an email) | Stripe collects the buyer's email at payment |
Password protected | Payment is the gate |
Burn after read | The buyer paid for lasting access |
View only | The buyer paid to download |
Direct link | Buyers need to reach the payment page first |
Expiration date | The buyer paid for lasting access |
These rules are also enforced when the transfer is created, so they apply from every place a transfer can be made.
Share it
When the transfer is created you get its link, and a Share by email field where you can pick contacts or type addresses (up to 30 at a time). Whether they get the link by email or you paste it somewhere, the experience is the same: everyone lands on the payment page first.
