Password protected file sharing with Tarkle Send

Add a password to any Tarkle Send transfer. Recipients must enter the correct password before accessing or downloading your files. Secure sharing made simple.

Password protection adds a lock to your transfer link. Without the correct password, the recipient sees a password prompt instead of the file. You set the password when creating the transfer, and share it with recipients separately.

How it works

Enable the Password protected option in transfer settings and enter your chosen password in the field that appears. The password is stored against the transfer. When a recipient opens the link, they must enter the exact password to proceed. There is no limit on who can try — so use a strong, non-obvious password and share it through a separate channel.

Use cases

  • Client deliverables — Share final work with a client without making it publicly accessible.

  • Confidential documents — Send NDAs, contracts, or financial files knowing only the intended party can open them.

  • Internal distribution — Share files across teams using a known internal password without managing individual access.

Works with both link and email

Password protection works on both the Link and Email sharing tabs. For email transfers, the password adds an extra layer even when you already control who receives the link. When Charge for access is enabled, password protection is disabled since payment acts as the access gate.
