White label file sharing for MSPs: a reseller guide

White label file sharing for MSPs means you sell a file sharing service under your own name, on your own domain, at prices you set, while the platform behind it runs the storage, the apps and the updates. Your customers get their own workspace and see your brand, and you keep the customer relationship. This guide explains how that works, what to check in a platform before you sign, and where Tarkle's Reseller and Reseller Pro plans fit. It also says when you do not need a reseller plan at all.

How white label file sharing for MSPs works

An MSP already owns the trust: you manage the laptops, the email and the backups. Customers keep asking where to send a 4 GB folder or how to collect documents from their own clients. A branded service you sell answers that question and puts your name on it, instead of a link to someone else's product.

The model has three parts. You pick a hosted platform. You put your name, logo, accent color and domain on it. Then you create a workspace for each customer and decide what each customer plan includes and costs. The platform runs the service. You answer the commercial questions and pass technical problems on.

Tarkle is a hosted service. There is no on-premise or self-hosted version, so this model suits MSPs who want to sell sharing without running servers. If a customer needs files kept on a server in their own building, that is a different product, and the comparison below says so.

What to check in a platform before you resell it

Ask these questions of any vendor, including Tarkle. Most of the answers are on the vendor's own pages, and some only come from a conversation with sales.

  • Brand: Do customers see your name, logo and colors on sign-in, share pages and emails, or the vendor's?

  • Domain: Does the service run on an address you own, such as a subdomain of your site?

  • Email: Do invitations and notifications come from your own sending domain?

  • Prices: Do you set the customer price, or does the vendor set it per user?

  • Customer separation: Does each customer get its own workspace, with its own storage allowance?

  • Territory and contract: Where may you sell, can you appoint sub-resellers, and what are your duties to your customers?

  • Exit: What happens to your customers' files if your subscription ends?

Before you shortlist a vendor, ask for the contract, not the brochure. The questions about territory, sub-resellers and what happens when your plan ends are answered there.

MSP file sharing on Tarkle: Reseller and Reseller Pro

Tarkle's reseller plans are built for this model. The facts below come from Tarkle's reseller plans and the pricing page.

Plan

Price

Customer workspaces

Pooled storage

Sales territories

Reseller

$99/month plus a $99 one-time setup fee, or $89/month billed yearly ($1,068/year)

50

6 TB

One

Reseller Pro

$189/month plus a $189 one-time setup fee, or $179/month billed yearly ($2,148/year)

100

15 TB

Up to three

The setup fee applies to monthly billing only. It is charged once, on the first invoice, and equals the first month's price. Yearly billing has no setup fee.

Reseller includes everything in Pro and Agency, a built-in referral program, your own customer plans and prices, self-registration and manual provisioning, and live chat and email support. Reseller Pro adds a built-in affiliate program, MCP, Slack and WordPress plugins and priority support on Slack. If you outgrow a pool, you can contact support@tarkle.com about custom plans and extra storage.

Two points matter for your pricing. The storage is one pool shared by all your customer workspaces. If you split it evenly, 6 TB across 50 workspaces is roughly 120 GB each, and 15 TB across 100 workspaces is roughly 150 GB each. Each customer plan you create is capped at the Pro limits, so you cannot sell a customer more per workspace than Pro offers.

Billing your customers is your job. Under the Reseller Terms, Tarkle takes no revenue share, transaction fee or commission on what you charge, and it does not process those payments. You invoice customers your own way, and Tarkle bills you for the plan. Earnings depend on what you charge and how many customers you sign, so this page makes no promise about them.

What your customers see

On your platform host, customers open workspaces, share pages, file requests, portals and notification emails that carry your brand and not Tarkle's name or logo. The Reseller Terms describe one exception: the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy pages that every reseller platform shows carry a single required attribution to a technology partner. The Reseller Dashboard you use to manage your platform is for you only, and customers do not see it.

Inside the workspace, your customer gets what Tarkle's file sharing offers: links with a password or an expiry date, file requests to collect documents, and a client portal where their own clients sign in with an email link. The custom domain page explains the address side.

Your own duties are in the terms. You tell customers how files are kept and deleted and that access can end if your Tarkle subscription ends. You also turn on two-factor sign-in for every admin account on your side.

A short setup flow for an MSP

  1. Pick the plan and pay. Reseller or Reseller Pro, monthly or yearly, bought at checkout. Then fill in your business details.

  2. Set your brand. Add your name, logo and accent color, plus links to your support email and website.

  3. Connect your domain. Use a subdomain you own, such as files.yourmsp.com. A bare root domain is not accepted. Add the DNS record Tarkle shows you and wait until the domain is active.

  4. Verify your sending domain. Add the email DNS records so invitations come from your domain.

  5. Choose your sales territory. A territory is a set of countries where you sell. Reseller has one and Reseller Pro up to three. Selling outside your territories needs Tarkle's written approval.

  6. Create your customer plans. Name each one and set its storage, team seats and features, up to the Pro limits.

  7. Add the first customer. Create the workspace by hand with a name and the customer's email, or turn on self-registration. The customer signs in with an emailed code.

Create one workspace for your own company first and send a real file to a colleague's private address. Check the sign-in, the email and the share page before a customer sees them.

RushFiles is the better fit when a customer needs on-premise hosting or Active Directory integration, and its margin model is stated on its own pages. ShareFile suits MSPs who already work in that partner program. Tarkle is simpler and fully hosted, with a flat plan price and your own prices, but it is not a file server and does not claim Active Directory. For side-by-side pages see RushFiles, ShareFile and CentreStack.

When Free, Pro or Agency is the better fit

You do not need a reseller plan to try this. Free costs $0 and gives you 1 workspace for one person, 5 GB of storage, a 1 GB upload limit, file sharing and file requests, custom branding and a custom domain. Use it to test the share pages on your own address. It stops at one person and one workspace, and it is not a white label platform you sell to customers.

Pro, at $29/month or $19/month billed yearly ($228/year), fits an MSP that only needs sharing for its own company: 2 workspaces, 3 TB, uploads up to 200 GB and a branded client portal.

Agency, at $59/month or $49/month billed yearly ($588/year), fits an MSP that serves its own managed clients and does not sell Tarkle as a product. It has 20 client workspaces on Pro features, 6 TB and a 100% white-label platform on your domain, but no plans, prices or sign-up page for customers. See white label for agencies. An organization holds Agency or a reseller plan, not both. Pick Reseller when you want to sell accounts under your own plans.

Next steps

Compare the plans on the reseller page and the pricing page. If you want to test the share pages first, start for free, then move to Reseller when you are ready to add customers.
