Client feedback

Client feedback in Tarkle lets you turn images or PDFs into a review board, send one link, and get pinned comments and a clear answer from your client: Approve this work or Request changes. Freelancers, studios and agencies keep feedback in one place instead of scattered across email threads, and clients need no account.

How client feedback works

  1. Open the Get feedback dialog and choose a type: PDF or Image. Website and Video are shown but cannot be selected.

  2. Add the files. Use Upload, Library, or the Dropbox and Google Drive tabs (these two appear once you have connected the account). A board holds one type, so PDFs and images cannot be mixed.

  3. Switch on Add password, Add deadline or Allow downloads if you want them, then click Create board.

  4. On Your board is ready, copy the link or use Share by email and click Send.

  5. Your client opens the link and leaves comments. They can pin a comment on an image or on a page of a PDF, or write a general comment with no pin. They can also reply, @mention people and attach one file to a comment (PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, SVG or PDF).

  6. When they are done, they click Finish review and choose Approve this work or Request changes.

Your team can reply to comments, assign a comment, move it between Active, In Progress, In Review and Resolved, and post team-only replies that reviewers never see. A team member can also upload a new version of a file on a board.

What you can control

  • Password: outside visitors must enter it before they see the board. Your own team is never asked for it. See password protection.

  • Deadline: pick a date and time. After it passes, commenting stops, the board stays visible, and a note above the comments says "Feedback closed on" with the date.

  • Who sees what: reviewers see each other's public comments. Team-only replies stay hidden from them.

  • Files: attachments on a comment can be up to 10 MB for images, 2 MB for SVG and 25 MB for PDF, and they count against your storage.

Emails

When a reviewer finishes a review, the owner gets an email at once saying they approved or requested changes, with the reviewer's note if they wrote one. New comments and replies email the owner and everyone who has commented on the board, at most one email per person per board every five minutes. When a team member changes a comment's status, the person who wrote it is emailed.

Plans and limits

Client feedback and approval is on Free, Pro and Agency. Free has a limit on how many active boards you can have at once.

Good to know

  • A board keeps one review status. If a client finishes a review again, the new decision replaces the old one.

  • Not built: drawn annotations, several required approvers, side-by-side version comparison, and video or website review.

  • Comments are up to 4,000 characters.
