File requests

A file request tool for businesses: send one upload link with your instructions, a destination folder, a closing date and a size limit. Free plan included, no account needed to upload.

Tarkle's file request tool gives you a link that anyone can upload to. You write the instructions, pick the folder the files should land in, and send the link to a client, a supplier or a guest. It suits accountants collecting year-end documents, agencies waiting on assets and event organisers gathering files from speakers.

The person uploading does not need a Tarkle account. Their files arrive in your workspace instead of in an email thread, and you can close the request on a date so it does not stay open forever.

How the file request tool works

  1. Open File requests and start a new request.

  2. Add a title and write the instructions: what you need, in which format, and by when.

  3. Choose the destination folder. If you do not choose one, Tarkle creates and uses a folder called File requests.

  4. Choose who can upload: anyone with the link, or one client organization.

  5. Set a closing date and a size limit if you want them, then save and send the link.

Each request gets its own sub-folder inside the destination folder, named after the title, so uploads for different jobs stay apart.

What the person uploading sees

They open your link and see your title and instructions with a drop area to drag files into. Before the upload starts, they enter their first name and email. If their files are over your size limit, they see a message with the limit and the upload does not start. If the closing date has passed, the link no longer shows the request.

What you can control

  • Instructions: free text that tells the sender what to upload. Put the list of documents you need here.

  • Destination folder: where uploads appear in your files.

  • Closing date: the request stops accepting files after the date you set. Read more in deadlines and size limits for requests.

  • Size limit: a maximum total size for each submission, so you decide how much one sender can upload at a time.

  • Who can upload: anyone with the link, or one client organization with per-client access on Pro, Agency and lifetime plans.

  • Email notifications: on by default for each request, and you can turn them off.

Where uploads appear

When someone uploads, you get an email that names the sender and the request, with a button that opens the request folder. The files are in that folder in your workspace, ready to move or share.

Your branding, your domain

The request page uses your brand colours, so it looks like part of your business. Set up custom branding once and add your own domain so the link comes from your address. If your site runs on WordPress, the WordPress integration lets you show a file request form on a page.

Plans

File requests are included on the Free plan, and Pro, Agency and lifetime plans include everything in Free. Limiting a request to one client organization is on Pro, Agency and lifetime plans.

Good to know

The request form has a title, instructions, a folder and a sharing choice, and the sender's fields are fixed: name and email. If you need a list of named documents, write it in the instructions. For a worked example, see how to collect tax documents from clients securely.
