Free WeTransfer alternative: 6 tools compared for business (2026)

The best free WeTransfer alternative depends on what stopped you. Biggest free transfer: SwissTransfer. Quick send with a password and no sign-up: TransferNow. Free sending plus your own domain and file requests: Tarkle. Already on Dropbox: Dropbox Transfer, with a small free size.

We make Tarkle, so read this as one vendor's view, and check the sources. Last checked: October 2026.

What are WeTransfer's free limits?

As published in October 2026, the WeTransfer free plan allows 3 GB per transfer and 10 transfers in a rolling 30 days (plan limits, updated 23 October 2026). Free links last 3 days, and you can send to up to 10 email recipients per transfer (WeTransfer free plan). You need a free account to send; recipients do not.

Passwords and restricting a transfer to named email addresses are free. Custom expiry, recovery of expired transfers and a branded page with a custom subdomain sit on its top paid plan. For a business, the 3-day link and the monthly transfer cap are what usually hurt.

Which free WeTransfer alternative lets me send bigger files?

Free size per transfer, as published in October 2026:

| Tool | Free size per transfer | |---|---| | SwissTransfer | 50 GB | | TransferNow | 5 GB | | Filemail | 5 GB | | WeTransfer (for reference) | 3 GB | | Smash | 2 GB | | Dropbox Transfer | 2 GB | | Tarkle | 1 GB |

Only SwissTransfer, TransferNow and Filemail beat WeTransfer's free size. Tarkle Free is below it, and we say so plainly below.

Before you pick a tool, check your biggest real file. If it is over 5 GB, only SwissTransfer works on a free plan from this list. If it is over 50 GB, you need a paid plan anywhere.

Which free tools suit a business?

Each tool below has one thing it does well and one real weakness. All figures are as published in October 2026.

SwissTransfer

SwissTransfer, by Infomaniak, allows up to 50 GB per transfer, no monthly transfer limit and up to 250 downloads on the free offer, with no account needed for the sender or the recipient, and no advertising (SwissTransfer). Links last 1 to 30 days. It suits organisations that want Swiss hosting and a big free size. Weakness: it is temporary transfer only, with no storage, and an expired link cannot be reactivated. Branding the transfer page is on the paid offers.

TransferNow

TransferNow allows 5 GB per transfer for free, files stay available for 7 days, and you can add a password for free, without creating an account (TransferNow). It suits a quick send to a client with no setup. Weakness: there is no storage on the free tier and links last 7 days. Its paid Starter plan is listed at 3 euros a month for 10 GB per transfer and 30 days, and a custom domain appears on its Premium plan.

Smash

Smash allows 2 GB per transfer on its free plan, with a 7-day transfer life, no storage and no sign-up (Smash pricing). It suits people who want a simple send page, with customisation and a custom subdomain on paid plans. Weakness: free transfers above 2 GB join a queue behind Pro transfers and are not prioritised, according to the same page.

Tarkle

Tarkle Free is $0 with no credit card. It includes 1 workspace, 5 GB of storage, up to 1 GB per upload or transfer, file sharing with a link that needs no account to download, password protection, file requests so clients can send you files, and a custom domain. It suits a freelancer who wants links on their own address and a place to collect files, not only to send them.

Weakness: Free is for one person, caps each transfer at 1 GB (less than WeTransfer's 3 GB), and keeps "Powered by Tarkle" on your pages. There is no client portal on Free, and Free also has caps on things like active events and feedback boards. Check plans and pricing for the limits on the day you sign up.

Filemail

Filemail's Basic plan allows 5 GB per file, files available for 7 days, 3 recipients and 10 downloads per transfer, and 2 transfers per 24 hours (Filemail Basic). It suits people who need recipients to download without signing up. Weakness: the 2 transfers per day cap. File requests, branding and password protection are listed on its Pro plan (plan comparison). Filemail's pages were inconsistent on whether free use needs registration, so check before you rely on it.

Dropbox Transfer

On Dropbox Basic you get 2 GB of storage and 2 GB per transfer, links expire after 7 days, and the recipient needs no Dropbox account (Dropbox Help, updated 24 September 2026). It suits teams already living in Dropbox. Weakness: passwords and logo customisation need the Standard plan, listed at $15 per user per month.

Can a free plan work for a business team?

Often, for one person. A free plan gets awkward when a second person needs access or when a client expects a branded place to come back to.

Tarkle Free is for one person. When you need a team, files above 1 GB or a branded place for clients, Pro is the step up: $29 a month, or $19 a month billed yearly ($228 a year). It supports files up to 200 GB, 3 TB of storage, 2 workspaces, unlimited team members and a fully branded client portal. See send large files for the size limits per plan.

When is Agency the better fit?

Only if you run Tarkle for your own clients. Agency is $59 a month, or $49 a month billed yearly ($588 a year), and includes everything in Pro, 20 client workspaces, 6 TB of storage, a white-label platform on your own domain and a client provisioning portal. Read white label for agencies if clients should see your name, not ours.

If you only need a one-off send with no branding, a free tool from the table above is the better choice, and you do not need to sign up for anything here.

Next step

Pick the tool that fits your biggest file and your link-life need, test it with a real transfer, and check the limits on the vendor's page that day, because free tiers change. If you want to send from your own domain and collect files back, start for free with Tarkle.
