How to invite your first client to the client portal
Add a client as a contact, group them in a client organization, turn on portal access, share a transfer with only that client, and see how they sign in.
The client portal is a branded place where each client signs in and finds what you shared with them. This guide takes you from an empty Contacts list to your first invited client. Contacts in organizations and the portal are available to an organization on Pro, Agency and lifetime plans.
Add and invite a client
Open Contacts. Click New contact to open the form.
Enter the details. Fill in First name and Email. The last name is optional.
Group the client. Tick Business contact? and type the company in Organization name. If an organization with that name exists, the contact joins it. Otherwise Tarkle creates it and the contact becomes its Owner.
Create the contact. Click Create contact. This does not send an invite yet.
Open the contact. Click the contact's name, then open the three-dot menu on the contact page.
Turn on portal access. Choose Enable portal access. Tarkle emails the client a sign-in link and you see "Portal access enabled, invite sent".
Share a transfer with one client. When you create a file transfer, choose the client organization it is for. Only members of that organization can open it, and everyone else sees nothing.
On Free, Enable portal access opens the upgrade dialog instead.
Add a colleague of the same client
Open the organization. In Contacts, open the Organizations tab and click the organization. To start a new organization here, click + Organization and fill in Organization name, Name and Email.
Add the person. Click Add member, fill in the details and choose a role, Owner or Member.
Choose the invite. Leave Send invite email on to invite someone new to your workspace.
If the person is already one of your contacts, adding them to the organization does not change their portal access. Use Enable portal access on their contact page instead.
What the client sees
The invite email carries your logo and accent color. It is sent from your own email sender if you set one up, and the link opens your custom domain, or your Workspace URL if you have no custom domain. The link works only once. If it has expired or was already used, the client lands on the sign-in page, types their Email, clicks Sign in with magic link and sees Check your email. There is no password.
Inside the portal the client has Home, Files, Shared and Requests, plus Brands when brand pages are assigned to them. They can search with Ctrl+K or ⌘K. Their uploads go into their own folder, named after them with "(uploads)", and each contact can upload up to 5 GB unless you set a different limit.
What happens next
The client opens the email, clicks the link and lands in the portal, where the transfer you shared is listed under Shared. Choose Resend invite on their contact page if they lose the email, or Disable portal access to stop their access.
