How to turn on two-step sign-in or a passkey

Two-step sign-in adds a second check to your Tarkle login. You can use an authenticator app, a passkey, or both. Each one is a switch on the Multi-factor authentication card of your Personal account page.

Turn on the authenticator app

  1. Open the menu. At the bottom of the sidebar, click your photo and name.

  2. Open Personal account. Click Personal account, then scroll to the Multi-factor authentication card.

  3. Start the setup. Switch Authenticator app on.

  4. Scan the code. In the Set up authenticator app dialog, scan the QR code with your authenticator app.

  5. Enter the code. Type the 6-digit code your app shows into Authenticator code.

  6. Confirm. Click Turn on.

The Turn on button stays disabled until you have entered six digits. When the code works, you see "Authenticator app turned on." If you cannot scan the QR code, type the key shown after Or enter this key: into your app instead. If the code is wrong, you see "That code did not work. Try the next one." Enter the next code your app shows. Cancel closes the dialog and the setup does not finish.

Turn off the authenticator app

Switch Authenticator app off. Tarkle asks for no code, and "Authenticator app turned off." appears.

Turn on a passkey

Switch Passkey on. Your browser or device opens its passkey prompt, for example Face ID, Touch ID or a security key. When it finishes, you see "Passkey turned on."

Passkeys work only on tarkle.com. On any other address, the card says "Passkeys only work on tarkle.com. Use the authenticator app on this address."

Turn off a passkey

Switch Passkey off. This removes every passkey on your account, and "Passkey turned off." appears. There is no confirmation step.

What sign-in asks for

Sign in with your email as usual: enter it, click Continue with email, then enter the 6-digit code sent to your inbox. If your account has a second step, the page then shows Two-factor authentication.

  • With an authenticator app, it asks you to enter the code from your authenticator app. Type it into Authenticator code. It submits by itself after six digits.

  • With a passkey on a tarkle.com address, a Use a passkey button appears. Using the passkey counts as the second step, so you do not need the authenticator code.

Note: if a passkey is your only second step and you sign in from an address that is not on tarkle.com, Tarkle tells you to sign in on tarkle.com and shows Back to sign in. Turn on the authenticator app as well if you want a second step that works on any address.

What happens next

The next time you sign in, Tarkle asks for the second step right after the email code. You can come back to the same card whenever you want to change a switch.
