How to connect an AI assistant to Tarkle
Create an access token for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or another assistant so it can upload files and create links.
You can connect an AI coding assistant to Tarkle so it works with your files. Ask it to upload a file, create a share link or set up a file request, and it does it in your account. This feature is in beta and is being switched on gradually, so you may not see it in your account yet.
What the assistant can and cannot do
Once connected, the assistant can list your workspaces and files, find files by name, upload files, create a public share link for up to 25 files, create file requests and read what was submitted, and list your brands. Tarkle sends no email when it creates a link or a request.
It cannot delete, rename or move files. It cannot read or change billing or settings, and it cannot send email. It cannot set a password or an expiry date on a share link it creates, so anyone with the link can view and download.
The assistant acts as you, within your role, and your plan's file size and storage limits still apply. It can reach every workspace you belong to, but only does what your role in each one allows.
How to connect
Open the page. In the Tarkle app, open Claude & Codex, the page headed Use Tarkle inside your AI.
Name your token. Under Access tokens, type a Name, for example "Cursor on my laptop".
Choose the expiry. Open Expires and pick 30 days, 90 days or 1 year.
Create the token. Click Create token.
Copy the token. Click Copy next to the token, then click Done.
Copy the prompt. In the Use Tarkle inside your AI card, click Copy to copy a short setup prompt.
Paste the prompt. Paste it into your assistant, which then follows Tarkle's setup instructions.
Paste the token. Paste your token when the assistant asks for it.
Test it. Ask your assistant: "List my Tarkle workspaces." A list of your workspaces means it works.
The setup instructions cover Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code (GitHub Copilot) and Windsurf. If your tool is not on that list, any assistant that supports remote MCP servers with a custom header can connect. Use the server address https://mcp.tarkle.com/mcp and add the header Authorization with the value Bearer, a space, then your token.
Note: The token is shown only once. Copy it before you click Done, because you cannot see it again. If you lose it, create a new one.
Manage your tokens
The same tokens appear in the MCP tab of Developers. Expires defaults to 90 days. Each token is listed with its name, the last four characters, its expiry date and when it was last used.
Click Revoke to stop a token at once. There is no confirmation step, and the assistant is refused the next time it uses that token. You can have up to 10 active tokens; expired and revoked ones do not count. An expired token cannot be renewed, so create a new one. Treat a token like a password, because anyone who has it can act as you.
Note: Browser sign-in for chat apps is not supported yet. You cannot connect Claude or ChatGPT chat with a sign-in window today, so use Claude Code, Codex or Cursor with a token.
What happens next
Your assistant can now work with your Tarkle files whenever you ask. If it reports that the token is wrong, expired or revoked, create a new token and give it to the assistant.
