File transfer expiration dates in Tarkle

An expiration date ends access to a file transfer on a day you choose. This page shows where to set it, which transfers can have one, and what a visitor sees after the date has passed.

Set an expiration date on a file transfer

The expiration date is set while you create the transfer. Start a new transfer from Transfers in the workspace you want to share from. For the full steps of a transfer, see How to create a file transfer.

  1. Choose the files you want to send.

  2. On the second step, enter the title and a summary.

  3. On the third step, the access options, tick the expiration checkbox.

  4. Click the field that reads Select expiration date, and pick a day in the calendar.

The calendar only allows days from one day after today, up to three years from today. Days outside that range cannot be picked. To remove a date you picked, click Clear in the field, or untick the expiration checkbox.

Which transfers can have an expiration date

The expiration option appears on file transfers. The audio and video options in the same window do not show it.

Paid transfers cannot expire. The expiration option is hidden for a transfer you charge for, and Tarkle refuses a paid transfer that carries an expiration date. To charge for access, see How to charge for access to a transfer.

What visitors see after the date

When the date has passed, the transfer link no longer opens the transfer. Tarkle compares the date with the current time each time someone opens the link. To stop access before the date, see How to password protect and set an expiry on a file transfer, which also covers pausing a link.
