How team storage works in Tarkle
Give a Team a storage budget out of your workspace storage, and see how budgets add up and what each Team uses.
Team storage sets aside part of your workspace storage for one Team, such as Marketing or Finance. A budget does not add storage. It is taken from the storage your organization's plan gives the workspace. This article shows how to set, change and remove a budget, and how to see what each Team uses.
Which plans have Teams and budgets
Team folders and storage are included on Pro, and Agency includes everything in Pro. See pricing for what each plan includes. On Agency, you can also set a limit on each client workspace's storage, as explained in Assign storage to a client workspace.
On the Free plan, the Team page shows an upgrade prompt instead of your Teams, so you cannot create a Team.
Who can create a Team
Only workspace Owners and Admins can create a Team. For other roles, the New team button is disabled, and hovering over it shows "Only workspace Owners and Admins can create teams."
The Edit, Assign storage and Delete actions in a Team's row menu are checked on the server too. If your role does not allow one of them, Tarkle shows a message such as "You do not have permission to edit this team."
Set a Team's budget
Open the Team page in your workspace at Team.
Select New team.
In the Create team dialog, enter a Name. It is required.
In Budget, type an amount and choose GB or TB.
Select Create team.
Under Budget, the dialog shows how much storage is still available to allocate. Leave Budget empty and the Team has no limit, so it shows Unlimited in the Budget column. The Access field chooses Everyone for the whole workspace or Members only, and with Members only you pick the members.
To change a budget later, open the three-dot menu on the Team's row and select Edit. Change Budget and select Save changes. The same dialog also changes the Team's name, description, icon and access.
You can also select Assign storage, which is at the top of the Team page and in the row menu. Pick the Team, enter the Budget and select Assign. Before you confirm, the dialog shows Current, After this change and Workspace storage left. This dialog always sets a fixed amount, so to go back to no limit, use Edit and leave Budget empty. The Assign storage button at the top stays off until you create a Team.
How budgets add up
Tarkle does not let the budgets of your Teams add up to more than the storage still available to allocate. If a budget is too large, Tarkle refuses it:
In Create team, it shows "That budget is more than the [amount] still available to allocate. Lower it, or leave it empty for no limit."
In Assign storage, the Assign button stays off and the dialog shows "This budget is more than the storage left in your workspace."
A budget also cannot go below what the Team already uses. In Assign storage, Tarkle shows "The budget cannot be reduced below current usage." after you select Assign. In Edit, the same case shows "Unable to update team." To lower the budget, first free up space in the Team's folders. For more storage for the whole workspace, see How to add more storage to your Tarkle workspace.
Delete a Team
Open the three-dot menu on the Team's row and select Delete. In the Delete team? dialog, select Delete team. Deleting a Team releases its storage budget and removes Team access. Its files and folders are kept and returned to workspace storage.
See what a Team uses
The Team page lists each Team in a table with the columns Team, Budget and Assigned to. Under each Team's name, a line shows Everyone or the number of members, the space the Team has used and the date it was created. The Budget column shows the amount, or Unlimited when there is no limit. Assigned to shows up to three avatars, then +N for any more members.
Above the table, the Team usage card shows the space used across your Teams, split into Documents, Videos, Audio and Photos. It also shows Transfers and Requests, each with its total and its count for the last 30 days.
