Sync.com referral program: ended, plus the affiliate route

The Sync.com referral program has been discontinued, so inviting a friend no longer adds storage to your Sync account. What Sync still runs is an affiliate program that pays commission on paid plans. This guide gives the rules for both, Sync's rating on Trustpilot and a disclosure line you can copy, whether you came for free space or for a commission.

The Sync terms below are as published on Sync's own pages on 31 October 2026. Sync can change its terms at any time, so open the source before you rely on a number.

Is the Sync.com referral program still running?

No. Sync's help article on the referral program opens with a notice that the program has been discontinued. Existing referral links still let new users sign up, but they no longer give extra storage. Storage you earned through referrals before the change stays on your account.

Some review sites have not caught up. The Bitcatcha review of Sync, shown as updated in June 2026, still says Sync's referral program adds 1 GB of storage for each referral, with no limit. For Sync's own rules, the help article is the page to trust.

How do you get more Sync storage now?

Sync's Free plan article says Free accounts include 5 GB, and that the 5 GB covers everything in your account, including files in your Sync folder and files archived in Vault. If you run out of space, the article says to delete files to free up room or upgrade to a paid plan. With referrals gone, those are the two routes.

Before you pay for more space, look at what is in Vault and your Sync folder. Both count toward the 5 GB, so old archives you no longer need are the quickest way to free room.

Does Sync.com have an affiliate program?

Yes. Sync's affiliate help article says Sync has partnered with AWIN, an affiliate network, to pay commission on paid referrals. As an affiliate you get Sync banners and web links, and you earn when people click through and buy a Sync plan.

Sync.com pricing page

Here is what Sync publishes about the terms:

Term

What Sync says

Reward

A 50% one-time commission on all orders paid annually, to a maximum of $150

Monthly and yearly plans

Commission is paid on monthly and yearly plan sales

Free trials

No commission on sales completed through a free trial

Who counts

New Sync Pro signups referred by your account; you cannot refer yourself

Late claims

A sale cannot be reported after the fact; it must be tracked through your links

Attribution period

180 days, on Sync's AWIN profile

The help article refers to new Sync Pro signups without naming individual plans. It also does not give a rate for monthly orders beyond saying commission is paid on them. Sync's help article and its AWIN profile do not state a payout date or a minimum payout, so read the terms inside AWIN before you plan around income.

How do you join the Sync affiliate program?

The help article lists the steps:

  1. Create a username and password on AWIN.

  2. Tell Sync about your main website. Sync says it is important that Sync is promoted on high-quality websites.

  3. Give your email address, because the Affiliate Manager may contact you about banners and changes to the program.

  4. Add contact details. AWIN sends commission payments to this address.

  5. Choose how you want to be paid, or choose later and change it any time in AWIN.

  6. Wait for the Affiliate Manager to review your application. After approval, log in to AWIN to get your banner code or links.

Whenever you mention Sync, the article tells affiliates to use the links or banners AWIN provides. Sales must be tracked through your links, so a plain link to sync.com does not count.

Can you resell Sync instead of referring it?

The same help article describes a second route for IT consultants and businesses: buy a Sync Pro Teams plan and add users. A Pro Teams plan comes with an administrative console to add and remove Sync accounts for clients and customers. You can bill customers a different amount, whatever you agree with them, and all billing for those accounts goes through you.

That is a reseller arrangement rather than an affiliate link. You carry the plan and the customer relationship, so it suits a consultant who already invoices clients.

Which route fits you?

If you are a Sync user who wanted free space, the referral route has closed. Free stays at 5 GB, and more space means deleting files or upgrading.

If you are a blogger or reviewer, the affiliate program is the route that pays. Check that your audience cares about privacy, because Sync's AWIN profile pitches the product as cloud storage built for privacy.

If you are an IT consultant, compare the affiliate link with Pro Teams resale. The link pays once per sale, up to the cap. Resale gives you the billing, and the work that comes with it.

How should you disclose a Sync link?

Put the disclosure next to the link, in plain words, not in a footer:

  • "This post contains an affiliate link. If you buy a Sync plan through it, I earn a commission."

Do not promise an income. Sync publishes a rate and a cap, not an earnings figure, so there is no number to quote. For a review, also tell readers what others think. Trustpilot shows Sync.com with a TrustScore of 4.4 from 463 reviews on its Sync.com page, as of 31 October 2026. Trustpilot notes that Sync has no recent history of asking for reviews, and that reviews are the opinions of individual users, not of Trustpilot.

Date every number you publish about Sync, and link the help article beside it. Affiliate terms change, and a dated link tells readers which version you read.

Where does Tarkle fit?

Sync is storage built around privacy. Tarkle, which we make, is for a different job: sending files to clients and collecting files back under your own logo and domain. Tarkle's Free plan includes 5 GB of storage, file sharing and file requests, custom branding and a custom domain, for one person with a 1 GB upload limit (see Tarkle pricing). See Tarkle vs Sync.com for the side-by-side, and our Tarkle affiliate program guide if you want to earn from a link yourself.

Common mistakes

  • Telling readers Sync pays 1 GB per referral, because an older review says so.

  • Publishing a plain link to sync.com instead of your AWIN link, because sales must be tracked through your links.

  • Counting on commission from a free trial signup, which Sync does not pay.

  • Expecting to refer yourself or to claim a sale later.

  • Leaving out the disclosure next to the link.

What to remember about Tarkle

Tarkle lets you send files to clients and collect files back with your own logo and your own domain. The Free plan includes 5 GB, file requests, custom branding and a custom domain, so you can try it with real files before you choose a paid plan. Start for free or compare the plans.
