How to download several files at once

Use the bar that appears when you select files in Files to download more than one file in a single step. Tarkle packs two or more files into one ZIP, so you save once instead of one file at a time.

Steps

  1. Open Files. Go to Files, or open any folder.

  2. Tick the files. Tick the checkbox on each row or card. In list view you can also tick Select all in the table header.

  3. Click Download. The bar shows the count, for example "3 selected", next to Move, Smart rename and Delete.

  4. Choose where to save. Your browser's save dialog opens. For several files it suggests the name archive.zip, which you can change.

  5. Wait for the panel to finish. A panel titled Downloading files shows the progress, then Download complete!, and a "Downloaded!" message appears.

If you close the save dialog without saving, nothing is downloaded and the panel shows "Save cancelled by user."

What arrives

Two or more selected files arrive as one ZIP file. If you tick a folder, it goes into the ZIP as a folder, and the folders inside it keep their structure.

A single selected file downloads directly, with no ZIP. A file under 50 MB downloads straight away. For a file of 50 MB or more, your browser asks where to save it first. This works in Chrome, Edge and Opera. In other browsers you see the message "File is too large for direct download in this browser".

Files that could not be downloaded

If Tarkle could not fetch a file, the other files still download. The ZIP then holds an extra text file named _files-not-downloaded.txt at its top level, and only when at least one file was skipped. It starts with how many files are missing, then lists each one with the reason.

You also see the message "Downloaded, but N file(s) could not be downloaded", and the panel says how many were skipped. To get the missing files, select them again and click Download.

What happens next

The ZIP, or the single file you picked, is saved where you chose. Open the ZIP to find your files and folders.
