Tarkle is better when you send files to clients and collect files back under your own brand, so it works as a Jottacloud alternative for business sharing. What Jottacloud is
Jottacloud is a Norwegian cloud storage service that syncs, backs up and shares files and photos. It is made by Jotta Group AS in Oslo and says it has offered cloud storage since 2008 (Jottacloud home page, read October 2026). It was built for people who want their devices backed up automatically, and it also sells plans for professionals and small businesses.
Jottacloud says all of its data centres are in Norway, that it runs its own servers, and that data is encrypted with TLS 1.3 in transit and AES-256 at rest (Jottacloud on encryption and data, October 2026). These are Jottacloud's own claims.
What Jottacloud offers
Jottacloud has a Free plan with 5 GB for one user. Its personal and family plans are for non-commercial use. For commercial use it sells Pro plans for one user, from 10 TB to 50 TB, and Business plans with 1 TB of storage: Small for 2 users at NOK 129 a month, Medium for 10 users at NOK 179 a month, and Large with no user cap at NOK 459 a month. Business prices are listed without VAT, and yearly billing is cheaper. See Jottacloud pricing and Jottacloud Business, both read in October 2026. The Business page shows a "Try for free" button; the length of that trial is not stated on the pages we read.
The main features are desktop apps for Windows and macOS, mobile apps for iOS and Android, a command-line tool, automatic backup of chosen folders, selective sync, a 30-day trash, and the last five versions of each file (Jottacloud features, October 2026). Business plans add Microsoft Office Online editing and an admin activity log.
For sharing with people outside your account, Jottacloud creates a public link to a file or folder. Recipients need no account and can view and download but not upload or change anything (Jottacloud help: share a folder, May 2025). We found no password, expiry, branding, custom domain, upload request link or client portal described on its pages or help center. We did not test an account, so check with Jottacloud if one of those matters to you.
What Tarkle does
Tarkle gives freelancers, agencies and small teams one place to store and share files. You send files and folders with one link, and the person downloading needs no account (share files by link). You can protect a transfer with a password, end it on a date with link expiration, and see in transfer status whether it was delivered, viewed or downloaded.
File requests let a client send you files through one link into the folder you choose. Custom branding puts your logo, colours and favicon on transfer pages, request pages and the portal, and a custom domain serves links from your own address. The client portal is a branded place where each client signs in with their email, sees only what you shared with them and sends files back. You can also sell access to a transfer through your own Stripe account with paid transfers.
On plans, as listed on the pricing page: Free is $0 with 5 GB, 1 GB per upload and 1 workspace. Pro is $29 a month, or $19 a month billed yearly, with 3 TB, uploads up to 200 GB, 2 workspaces, unlimited team members and the client portal. Agency is $59 a month, or $49 a month billed yearly, with everything in Pro plus 6 TB, 20 workspaces for clients and a white label platform where "Powered by Tarkle" is replaced by your agency name. Tarkle has no free trial; the Free plan is how you try it.

Who should choose Jottacloud
Choose Jottacloud if the job is protecting your own data. It backs up whole computers, phones and external drives, syncs folders between devices, stores photos in original quality, and has large storage tiers. It suits a family or a sole professional who wants Norwegian hosting, and a small team that edits Office documents together. Tarkle has no desktop or mobile app and no backup, so if you need those, stay with Jottacloud.
Who should choose Tarkle
Choose Tarkle if the job is delivering work to clients and getting files back from them. A client opens a link on your domain with your logo, not a generic storage page. You decide who can open it with a password, an end date or a single client organization, and you can see whether it was viewed or downloaded. A file request replaces the email thread of "please send me the assets". Pro and Agency take files up to 200 GB, and the client portal gives each client one place to sign in.
Agencies get a workspace per client and, on Agency, a platform that carries only their own name. If you charge for deliverables, paid transfers collect payment before the download. None of this needs a card: the Free plan is enough to send one real transfer and see what your client sees. Start for free.
Switching from Jottacloud to Tarkle
Tarkle cannot import from Jottacloud. It imports from Google Drive and Dropbox only, so Jottacloud files have to be downloaded and uploaded.
Decide what is client-facing. Your personal backup can stay in Jottacloud; move only the files you share with clients.
Sign up on the Free plan, then add your logo, colours and custom domain.
Download the client files from Jottacloud and upload them to folders in Tarkle.
Send each client a new transfer link, or set up a client portal on Pro or Agency.
Create file requests for what clients still owe you.
Run both side by side for a month. Keep Jottacloud for backup and use Tarkle for anything a client sees, then revoke the old public links once clients have the new ones.

Is Jottacloud good for sending files to clients? It can send a public link to a file or folder with no recipient account. We found no password, expiry, branding or upload request on its pages, so it fits a one-off share better than regular sharing with clients.
Can I use Jottacloud's personal plans for business? Jottacloud says personal and home plans are for personal use and that commercial use needs a Pro or Business plan (help center, March 2025).
