What are transfers in Tarkle?
Tarkle has three transfer types, file, video and audio, and all three are created in the same transfer dialog.
Tarkle has three transfer types: file transfer, video transfer and audio transfer. All three are created in the same transfer dialog. To start one, open Transfers in your workspace. This article explains what each type does, which files it accepts, and the limits and rules that apply.
File transfer
A file transfer shares files and folders from your workspace through one link. You can also upload files as you create the transfer. Recipients open the file transfer page and see the file list there. To create one, follow How to create a file transfer.
Video transfer
A video transfer shares one video on its own video page, with a player. You can upload a video file, or paste a link from a video provider. Tarkle can embed links from YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Wistia, Bunny Stream and Gumlet.
An uploaded video must be an MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, MKV or M4V file. Any other file is refused with the message "Only video files can be added to a video transfer." A video file follows the same size limit as any file on your plan, which is listed in the plan limits section below.
A video transfer can also carry a button with its own label and link, a cover image and a summary.
Audio transfer
An audio transfer shares one or more audio tracks on its own audio page, which has a player. It accepts MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, AAC, FLAC, AIFF, Opus and WMA files. Any other file is refused with the message "Only audio files can be added to an audio transfer."
Each audio transfer is set to listen only, free download or paid download. You can also set a preview length in seconds. To see the audio page as a recipient sees it, read What is an audio transfer page?.
Access settings
Before you send a transfer, you can add a password, set an expiry date, turn on an email check, or choose burn after read, view only or a direct download link. A direct download link starts the download as soon as the link is opened, with no transfer page in between.
Paid downloads
Charging for a download needs a Pro or Agency plan on your organization. Agency includes everything in Pro. Two things must be in place:
Turn on Enable paid transfers in Settings, on the General tab.
Connect Stripe under Integrations.
On Free, paid transfers are not available. A paid transfer cannot have a password, burn after read, an email check, view only or an expiry date, because payment is the access check. If a message stops you, see Why can't I turn on paid transfers?.
Plan limits
On the Free plan, each file can be up to 1 GB, each transfer can be up to 1 GB, and you can create 15 transfers a month. Once a month has 15 transfers, Tarkle does not create another one. Pro and Agency support files up to 200 GB, and Pro has no monthly limit on transfers. Prices for each plan are on Tarkle plans and pricing.
Link IDs and custom aliases
Tarkle creates a 12-character link ID for each transfer when you create it, for every transfer type. You can also give a transfer a custom alias, a readable name for its link. An alias can use lowercase letters, numbers, and single hyphens or underscores between parts, and it can be up to 64 characters. Words such as dashboard, settings and billing are reserved. Each transfer type keeps its own aliases.
