How to share business files with Tarkle
Share business files with a transfer, then pick the file, video or audio type and set who can open it.
Share business files with Tarkle by putting them in a transfer. A transfer holds the files you choose, a title and a description, and the access settings that decide who can open it. This article covers the three transfer types and which one fits your files.
Start a transfer
Every transfer starts on the Transfers page of your workspace. The three transfer types are created in the same dialog, and How to create a file transfer walks through each step.
Open Transfers and click New transfer.
Add the files or folders you want to send, or paste an external link.
Choose the transfer type and the access settings.
Create the transfer and send its link to the recipient.
A transfer is the main way to share, not the only one. A direct download link starts the download as soon as someone opens it, with no transfer page. A file request collects files that other people send to you.
The three transfer types
File transfer
A file transfer shows the recipient the transfer's title, its description and its files. It accepts any file type, so documents, design files, archives and mixed content can share one transfer. Free supports uploads and transfers up to 1 GB each. Pro and Agency support files up to 200 GB. See plans and pricing.
Video transfer
A video transfer takes only video files and plays them on a page with a built-in player. You can also paste a link from YouTube or Vimeo. When you create it, choose whether viewers can only watch, download for free, or download after payment.
Audio transfer
An audio transfer takes only audio files and plays them on a page with a player. It has no password, email gate, expiry date or burn after read. What is an audio transfer page? explains how the page works.
Which type fits your files
Documents, PDFs, spreadsheets, design files and ZIP archives go in a file transfer. Walkthroughs, explainers and training videos go in a video transfer. Music, podcast episodes and voice recordings go in an audio transfer.
A delivery that mixes types, such as a contract, a video and a track, belongs in one file transfer. A video transfer and an audio transfer refuse files of other kinds.
Access settings by transfer type
File and video transfers take the same access settings. Paid transfers cannot use them, as explained in the section on paid transfers below.
Password: recipients enter a password before they can open the transfer. How to password protect and set an expiry on a file transfer shows how to set one.
Email gate: recipients enter their email first, and can add a first name. That email is saved as a contact in your workspace, or matched to a contact already there. The gate stays open in that browser for one day. Email gated file transfers: how the gate works explains it in more detail.
Expiry date: the link stops working after the date you choose.
Email addresses: add up to 30 recipient email addresses to one transfer.
View only: recipients can preview the files in the browser, without a download. View only file sharing covers this setting.
Burn after read: the transfer stops working after its first download.
Paid transfers
A paid transfer charges for access through your own Stripe account, so recipients pay before they can download. Paid transfers are available on Pro and Agency. A paid transfer cannot have a password, an email gate, an expiry date, view only or burn after read.
To charge for a transfer, your organization needs Pro or Agency, paid transfers turned on, and Stripe connected. Why can't I turn on paid transfers? names each step, and How to charge for access to a transfer walks through the setup.
Find your transfers
On the Transfers page, three cards at the top show Transfers, Page views and Downloads for the period you choose. Select transfers in the list and click Delete selected to remove them together.
What happens next
A transfer is the link you send, so once it is created, send that link to the recipient. Recipients do not need a Tarkle account to download. See Share files by link.
