How to change your Tarkle workspace URL
Change your workspace URL from the Domains tab in Settings, and see what the change does to existing links.
Your workspace URL is the name that starts your workspace's public address, followed by .tarkle.com. This article covers where to change it, the names Tarkle accepts, and what happens to the links you already shared.
Find the Edit workspace URL button
Open Settings for your workspace and select the Domains tab, or go straight to Domains. The first row of the table shows your workspace address with the status Active. Its Actions column holds the Edit workspace URL button.
Only the workspace owner sees that button. Members who can view settings can open the Domains tab but do not see the button. A workspace that a reseller runs for a customer does not show this row.
Change the workspace URL
Open the Domains tab in Settings, as described above.
Click Edit workspace URL.
In the New URL field, type the new name in the middle. On a wide screen, https:// shows before the field and .tarkle.com after it.
Click Update.
The dialog warns that changing your workspace URL breaks existing transfer and request links. Read that warning before you click Update.
Names you can use
A workspace URL has between 2 and 63 characters. Use lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens only, and do not start or end the name with a hyphen. Capital letters turn into lowercase as you type. Tarkle does not accept names it reserves, such as admin, api, help or login, and it does not accept a name another workspace already uses.
A message appears under the field a moment after you stop typing. For example, "Workspace URL can only contain lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, and cannot start or end with a hyphen" appears when a character is not allowed. Clicking Update checks the name again. A reserved name shows "Workspace URL not available", and a name another workspace uses shows "Domain is not available". Both messages appear as a notification.
What happens after you update
When the name is saved, Tarkle shows the notification Workspace URL updated, and the page refreshes with the new name in the Default row. You stay on the same page. If you open Settings from an older address, Tarkle shows "You will be redirected soon" and opens the sign-in page at the new address.
The next row shows your tarkle.page address, which is built from the same name, so it changes too. If the name does not fit that address, the row shows "Unavailable until workspace URL is updated", and the owner can click Edit workspace URL in that row.
The old address no longer finds your workspace, because Tarkle looks up a workspace by its name. Existing transfer and request links break, so send recipients a new link after the change. To share a file again, see How to create a file transfer. Your custom domain keeps working, because Tarkle finds it by its own domain name.
