Who can open a brand page?

Choose Public or Password protected in a brand's Settings tab to decide who can open its brand page.

Every brand page has one access setting, and it decides who can open the page. You set it in the brand editor, on the Settings tab, in the Access section. Your team can always open its own brand pages, whatever the setting is. The next section says who counts as your team.

Who counts as your team

Your team is the workspace owner, an owner who reaches the workspace through a workspace link, and the active team members of the workspace. A team member who is suspended is not treated as part of the team.

The team is never asked for a brand page password. It can always open the page and download its files. The same check decides the page and every download, so a team member who can open a brand page can also download its files, even on a brand that asks for approval to download.

Public

Anyone with the link can open a public brand page. Search engines can index it once it is published. The Access menu describes this choice as "Anyone on the internet with the link can view".

Password protected

Choose Password protected, then type the password in the Password field that appears. Share the password yourself with the people who should see the page. The menu describes this choice as "Only people with the password can view it".

Visitors see a title that says the brand requires a password, a Password field and an Unlock button. A wrong password shows "Incorrect password". Tarkle allows 20 password checks per brand from one internet connection in an hour. After that, the page shows "Too many attempts. Try again later." A visitor who enters the right password stays unlocked in that browser for 30 days. If you change the password, every visitor has to enter the new one. Your team is never asked for it.

Restricted

Restricted is an older setting. The Access menu shows it only on a brand that already uses it, so you cannot switch a Public or Password protected brand to Restricted.

A restricted brand opens for the contact or the organization members it is assigned to, and for your team. A restricted brand with nobody assigned opens only for your team and for visitors whose access request you approved (see Giving access to a request below). Anyone else sees "{brand} is private" with a form to request access.

To assign a brand, turn on Assign this brand in the Settings tab and choose the contact or organization. On a restricted brand, the assigned person opens the page when signed in with the account of that contact, or of a member of that organization. On a Public or Password protected brand, assigning gives no extra access. To show a brand in a client's portal, see How do I share a brand page with a client?.

Requests from visitors

On a password protected or restricted brand, a visitor can send a request with Request access. The form asks for Your name (optional), Your email (required) and Why do you need access? (optional). Each internet connection can send 5 requests per brand in an hour. A second request from the same email within 24 hours is recorded once. You get an email about each new request.

Giving access to a request

Each request is listed in the brand's Requests tab. Choose Give access to approve it. Tarkle then emails the requester a link. On a password protected or restricted brand, opening that link in their browser opens the brand page for 30 days, without the password and without an assignment. Only that browser gets the access, so the page does not open for everyone.

The approval also opens the brand's files, unless the brand asks for approval to download. A view approval does not open downloads that need approval: the requester needs an approved download request for those, as described in How do download approval and access requests work? and in the Downloads section below.

Choose Resend access on an approved request to send a new link. The 30 days start again, and the earlier link stops working.

To end the access, choose Revoke access on an approved request, or Reject on a pending one. Revoke access and Reject end it at once: the browser stops opening the page and its files, even before the 30 days are over.

You can also give someone access without the email link: on a restricted brand, assign the person, and on a password protected brand, share the password with them.

Search engines and link previews

Search engines can index only a public brand page that is published. Password protected, restricted and draft pages are marked so that search engines leave them out. When a password protected or restricted link is pasted into a chat, the preview shows only your workspace's name and image, never the brand. A pasted draft link shows no preview.

Downloads

The files on a brand page follow the same access as the page. A visitor who cannot open a password protected or restricted brand cannot download its files either. The Require approval to download switch under Downloads adds a request step for downloads. See How do download approval and access requests work?.

What happens next

Open Brands, choose the brand and go to its Settings tab to change who can open it. Brand pages belong to a workspace, so open the workspace where the brand lives.
