What are file requests in Tarkle?

A file request is a link that lets anyone send files straight into a folder in your workspace.

File requests are the reverse of a file transfer. You create a link, and anyone who has it can send files to you. Every upload is saved in a folder in your workspace, and the person uploading does not need a Tarkle account. File requests are included in the Free plan.

Where file requests are

Go to File requests to see your requests. The page shows three cards, Requests, Page views and Uploads, above the list. Active requests come first, and closed ones carry a Completed badge. Each row shows the request name under File requests, its Shared with setting (Public, an organization name or No organization), the number of uploads, the folder its files go to, and its deadline or Never. Click the request name to open the folder that holds its uploads.

Create a file request

  1. On the File requests page, click New request.

  2. Type a Title. A title is required.

  3. Optionally type a Description. Visitors see it on the upload page.

  4. Under Folder for uploaded files, pick a folder. If you pick none, the files go to the File requests folder.

  5. Optionally set a Deadline. The earliest date is tomorrow and the latest is three years from now.

  6. Keep Send email notifications when files are uploaded checked if you want an email for each upload.

  7. Click the button at the bottom right of the form.

Each request gets its own subfolder, named after its title, inside the folder you picked. Every request created from this form is public, so anyone with the link can upload to it. For the steps after you share the link, read File requests in Tarkle: how to collect files from clients.

Share the link

Open the three-dot menu on the request and click Copy URL. The upload page shows your workspace logo and name, the request title and the description, with a Contact us link when your workspace has one. Visitors do not sign in. They drag files onto the box or click it to choose files. Then they type a First name and an Email in Files ready to upload. The last name is optional. They click Upload.

If a file does not upload, the dialog says how many did not and asks the visitor to select Retry. After a successful upload, the visitor gets an email with the subject [workspace name] received your files, whether or not the notification checkbox is checked. To set the most a visitor can upload at once, use Upload limit in the row menu. The upload page then states the limit.

Where the files go

Files are saved once the whole upload has arrived. They sit in the request's subfolder, which you open by clicking the request name in the list. If the notification checkbox is checked, your account email gets one email for each upload, and its subject names the uploader, the number of files and the request title.

Close, reopen and delete

Use Close request in the row menu to stop uploads. The link then shows a page that is not found. Use Open request in the same menu to reopen it. A request also stops at its deadline, and its link shows the same page.

Use Delete to remove a request from the list. Its folder and the files in it stay in your workspace.

Plan limits

On the Free plan, a workspace can have one active file request. A request stays active until its deadline passes, and a request with no deadline stays active. Closing a request does not free its place, but a passed deadline does. When the limit is reached, New request is disabled and its tooltip reads "You have reached the maximum number of requests." Pro has no limit on active file requests, and Agency includes everything in Pro. Compare the plans on pricing.
