What are file requests in Tarkle?
File requests let anyone with the link send files to a folder in your workspace, with no sign-in.
File requests are the reverse of a file transfer. Instead of sending files to someone, you create a link that lets other people send files to you, and the files are saved to a folder in your Files. This page explains what a file request does, who can upload with it, and which limits apply.
The Requests page
Open Requests to see the file requests of your workspace. Above the list, three cards show Requests, Page views and Uploads. A Search requests box sits in the toolbar next to the New request button.
A request stays open until its deadline passes or you close it. When the deadline passes, the request's link stops opening the request page. When you close a request, its link stops accepting files.
How a file request works
Click New request to open the Create new request window. Enter a Title, which is required, and an optional Description. Under Folder for uploaded files, choose the folder where the files should go. Set a Deadline if the request should end on a set day. Then click the button at the bottom of the window to create the request.
If you do not choose a folder, the files go to a folder named "File requests" that Tarkle creates for you. Tarkle also creates a folder named after the request title inside the folder you chose, and every upload to the request is saved there. For the full steps, see File requests in Tarkle: how to collect files from clients.
To get the link, open the three-dot menu at the end of the request row and click Copy URL. To send the request from Tarkle, choose "Send by email", add the email addresses and click "Send email".
You do not need to be online when someone uploads. Tarkle saves the files to the request's folder when the upload finishes.
Who can upload
A request you create on the Requests page is public. Anyone who has the link can open it and upload files, with no sign-in. Share the link only with the people you want files from.
A visitor sees the title and description you wrote, and a box that says Drag and drop here or click to upload. After the visitor chooses files, a Files ready to upload window appears. It asks for a first name, an optional last name and an email address. The visitor then clicks Upload.
To stop a request from accepting files, click Close request in its row menu. Click Open request to turn it back on.
Email notifications
The Send email notifications when files are uploaded box is ticked by default in the Create new request window. While it is ticked, each submission sends one email to the account email of the workspace owner. The email has a See files button that opens the request's folder. Clear the box to stop these emails for that request.
The visitor who uploaded also gets an email that says the workspace received their files. This confirmation is sent whatever the box says.
Limits
A deadline can be from one day to three years ahead. Leave Deadline empty for a request with no end date.
Upload limit in the row menu sets the most a visitor can upload at once on that request. Choose MB or GB and enter an amount, or leave the field empty for no limit. If the files a visitor drops together add up to more than the limit, they see "These files are over the upload limit of" followed by the limit, and nothing is added.
The plan of your organization sets how many requests can be active at once. Free allows one active request. Pro and Agency allow unlimited active requests. For what each plan includes, see plans and pricing.
A request counts as active while it has no deadline or its deadline has not passed. Closing a request does not change that count. When the limit is reached, New request is greyed out and shows "You have reached the maximum number of requests."
Manage a request from its row menu
Open the three-dot menu at the end of a request row to use these items:
Copy URL copies the link of the request.
Copy vanity URL copies the link under your workspace URL.
Embed request copies embed code for a public request, when your plan allows embeds. See Embed a file request on your website.
Send by email opens a window where you add email addresses and send the request.
Upload limit sets the upload limit described above.
Close request or Open request stops or restarts the request.
Edit opens the Edit request window.
Delete removes the request.
To delete several requests, select their rows and click Delete selected.
