Copy the embed code for a public file transfer and paste it into a page on your website.

An embed shows a public file transfer and its files inside a page on your own website, so visitors can see the files without leaving that page. This article covers which plans include embeds, how to copy the embed code and what visitors see.

Before you start

Embeds are available on Pro and Agency. Agency includes everything in Pro. The Free plan does not include embeds, so the embed item does not appear there. Compare the plans on the pricing page.

Only a public transfer can be embedded. The embed item does not appear for a transfer that is not public. If you have not created the transfer yet, start with How to create a file transfer.

How to get the embed code

  1. Open Transfers and open the transfer you want to embed.

  2. Click the action menu on the transfer.

  3. Click Embed transfer.

Tarkle copies the code to your clipboard and shows Embed code copied. The code is one iframe and a short script, so paste the whole block into your page.

Paste it into your site

Open the page editor of your website, add a custom HTML block or a custom code section, and paste the code there. The code is plain HTML, so it can go into any page editor that accepts custom HTML.

The iframe loads your transfer from your workspace address, or from your custom domain when the workspace has one. To connect your own domain, see How to use a custom domain for your file sharing links.

The frame is at least 600 pixels tall. It does not grow to fit a long list of files on its own, so change the 600px value in the code if the files need more room.

What visitors see

Visitors do not need a Tarkle account to open a public transfer. Inside the frame, the files sit in a white card with a thin border. The embed follows the transfer's own settings:

  • If the transfer has a password, visitors first see the Protected Transfer screen and enter the password. To set one, see How to password protect and set an expiry on a file transfer.

  • If the transfer asks for an email address, visitors first see Enter your details to access files.

  • If the transfer is a paid transfer, visitors see the payment screen in the embed until they pay.

  • After the transfer's expiry date passes, the embed does not open.

Each time the embed loads, Tarkle counts a view on the transfer and records it in the activity log.

Video and audio transfers

Video and audio transfers have their own items in the same menu: Embed video and Embed audio. For how each one shows on a page, see Embed video on your website and Embed audio on your website.

What happens next

Open the page in a browser while signed out of Tarkle, and check that the transfer and its files appear as visitors will see them.
