White label SaaS reseller: a checklist before you sell

A white label SaaS reseller business means selling file sharing to your own customers under your name, your domain and your prices, while the vendor runs the storage and the software. If you are an MSP, a web host or a software seller, this is a different decision from an agency that shares files with its own clients. You take on a customer relationship, a support queue and a sales territory, not only a tool. This checklist covers the five points to settle before you sign.

Ask any vendor for its terms in writing before you set a customer price. The terms decide what you can promise.

Who this white label SaaS reseller checklist is for

Use it if you will sell accounts to your customers and bill them under your own brand. An agency that gives its own clients a branded place for their files has a different job, and the Agency plan is built for it. If you are unsure which plan fits, start with the Reseller vs Agency plan article.

Checklist 1: the customer-facing brand

  • Which pages will your customers see: sign-in, sign-up, share pages, emails?

  • Will the emails come from your own address, and what does the vendor's name still show?

  • Who owns the legal pages your customers read?

The Platform Legal Pages name a technology partner once, and that attribution is required and may not be removed. Read the Reseller Terms yourself before you promise your customers a single brand.

Checklist 2: customer pricing and billing

  • Who sets the customer price, and can you create your own plans?

  • Who collects the customer's payment, and into which account?

  • What does the platform cost you, monthly or yearly?

  • Does the vendor take a share of what you charge?

Under the Reseller platform, you set your own plans and prices. Reseller costs $99/month plus a $99 one-time setup fee, or $89/month billed yearly ($1,068/year). Reseller Pro costs $189/month plus a $189 one-time setup fee, or $179/month billed yearly ($2,148/year). Under the Reseller Terms, Tarkle takes no revenue share, transaction fee or commission on payments between you and your customers, and it does not process those payments.

Manage your plan and invoices on your organization's billing page.

Checklist 3: registration and provisioning

  • Can customers sign up on their own, or do you create every account?

  • Which plan does a new workspace start on?

  • Who records a subscription when a customer pays?

Tarkle includes self-registration and manual provisioning on Reseller and Reseller Pro. Before a customer sees the flow, create one test workspace, sign in with a new address, and send a real file to a colleague.

Checklist 4: support responsibilities

  • Who answers a customer's billing and product questions?

  • What do customers learn about file retention and what happens at the end?

  • Who turns on two-factor sign-in for admin accounts?

Under the Reseller Terms, commercial support is your job. You respond to your customers' commercial support requests and pass technical issues to Tarkle. You also give customers accurate information about how files are retained and deleted, and you turn on two-factor authentication for every admin account.

Reseller includes live chat and email support. Reseller Pro adds priority support via Slack.

Checklist 5: the sales territory

  • Which countries will you sell in?

  • Will you sell through other companies?

Reseller has one authorized sales territory. Reseller Pro has up to three. The Reseller Terms say you may not sell outside your approved territories without Tarkle's written approval, and they list selling through sub-resellers among the things a reseller will not do.

Where the Reseller plans match the checklist

Most points above are answered on Tarkle's pricing: 50 customer workspaces and 6 TB of pooled storage on Reseller, 100 workspaces and 15 TB on Reseller Pro, your own plans and prices, and self-registration with manual provisioning.

One point needs a direct question before you sell. The pricing page says you set your own plans and prices with Stripe. Ask support how your Stripe account connects to customer charges, and get the answer in writing.

What to remember about Tarkle

Reseller and Reseller Pro are the two plans for selling file sharing under your own name. Reseller covers one sales territory, 50 customer workspaces and 6 TB of pooled storage, and Reseller Pro covers up to three territories, 100 workspaces and 15 TB.
