How to embed a video transfer on your website

You can show a video transfer on any page of your website. The embed code places your branded video player on the page, so visitors can watch the video without leaving your site. This article covers which plans include embedding, how to copy the code, and what visitors see. For the page a video transfer opens on its own, read What is a video transfer page?.

Before you start

Embedding is available on Pro and Agency. Free does not include it, and on Free the Embed video item does not appear in the transfer menu. Agency includes everything in Pro. Compare the plans on plans and pricing.

The transfer must be public. The Embed video item only appears for public transfers, and the embed does not play for a transfer that is not public. The video transfer also needs public embedding turned on. Until it is on, the embed does not play for visitors. A video transfer set to paid download cannot be embedded. If the video transfer is disabled or its expiry date has passed, visitors see a not-found page inside the embed. To create a video transfer, read How to create a video transfer.

How to get the embed code

  1. Open Transfers in the workspace that holds the video.

  2. Click the three-dot menu at the end of the video transfer's row.

  3. Click Embed video.

If the transfer holds more than one video, the Choose a video to embed window opens. Click the video you want. An embed plays one video at a time, and the code for that video is copied. A transfer with one video copies its code straight away. Tarkle then shows Embed code copied. If the copy fails, it shows Could not copy embed code to clipboard.

Paste it into your site

Paste the code into your page where your website accepts HTML, such as a custom HTML block. The code is one frame with a short script that keeps the frame in step with the player. The frame fills the width of the space it sits in. Then publish the page the way your website normally does.

The address in the code uses your custom domain if your workspace has one. Otherwise it uses your Workspace URL.

What visitors see

The frame starts at a minimum height of 600 px and changes its height to fit the player once the page loads. The player uses your workspace's accent color, text color and logo, and the transfer's cover image as its poster. If watermarking is on for the transfer, the player shows your workspace name as a watermark.

Download is always off in the embed, so visitors cannot download the video from it. Casting, picture-in-picture and autoplay follow the transfer's own settings. If the transfer has a password or an email check, visitors complete that form inside the embed before the video plays. A video transfer made from a YouTube, Vimeo, Loom or Wistia link shows that service's player in the embed instead.

What happens next

Open the page where you pasted the code and check that the video plays. Each view of the embed is logged in the activity log.
