How to create a video transfer

A video transfer gives your recipient a video page with the video player, the title, and a line with the creator's name, the video length, the size and the date. You can create one in two ways. The Upload video window on the Videos page creates the transfer in one step. The New Transfer window lets you paste a link or pick a video from your library, and it has more settings. To learn more about the types of transfer, read What are transfers in Tarkle?.

Video size and storage

The largest video you can upload depends on your plan. Free supports uploads and transfers up to 1 GB each. Pro and Agency support files up to 200 GB. Compare the plans on plans and pricing.

Each video you upload is saved to your workspace Files and counts toward your storage.

Create a video transfer from the Upload video window

  1. On the Videos page, click Upload video.

  2. Drop a video file on the window, or click browse and choose one. Accepted formats are MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, MKV, M4V, FLV, WMV, 3GP and MPEG. A file that is not a video is refused with the message "That file doesn't look like a video we can process."

  3. The upload starts as soon as you pick the file. The status line shows "Video file uploading..." with a progress bar, then "Video is uploaded and ready". If the upload fails, the window shows "Upload failed. Please try again." Click Try Again to start over.

  4. When the status shows "Video is uploaded and ready", click Done. Tarkle creates the transfer with the file name as its title, without the file extension, and a public link. This window does not ask for a summary or download options. The page then reloads and the video appears in your library.

Tarkle makes an MP4 copy of each uploaded video. While that copy is still being made, the video page plays the file you uploaded.

To add a summary or choose download options, create the transfer in New Transfer instead.

Create a video transfer in New Transfer

  1. Open New Transfer. The window offers Files, Videos and Audio. Choose Videos.

  2. Choose how to add the video on the tabs. Upload lets you drop or browse for a file. Link lets you paste a link. Library lets you pick a video that is already in your workspace. Only video files can be added to a video transfer.

  3. For a link, paste a YouTube, Vimeo, Loom or Wistia link. When the video is ready, go on to the second step.

  4. On the second step, enter a Title and a Summary. The wand button next to the Title field fills in both with AI. The AI assistant (Beta) is included in Pro.

  5. Go on to the third step to set the options listed below.

  6. Press the button that creates the transfer. The window then shows the transfer link, and you can copy it.

Options on the third step

For an uploaded video, the third step offers these options:

  • Show watermark during playback overlays your workspace name on the video while it plays. Turning it on turns downloads off.

  • Allow download lets anyone download the video for free. Turning it on turns the watermark off.

  • Charge for download lets viewers watch a free preview and pay to download the video. This option appears only when paid transfers are switched on and Stripe is connected. Paid transfers are a Pro feature. Turn on the Enable paid transfers switch in Settings. When you choose this option, you set a Price, a currency, and the free preview length in seconds, with 30 as the default. Casting, Picture-in-Picture and public embedding are turned off for a paid transfer. To connect Stripe, read Share files and get paid with Stripe.

  • Autoplay starts the video muted when a viewer opens the page. If the browser blocks it, the viewer presses Play.

  • Allow casting and Allow Picture-in-Picture are on by default. They let viewers cast the video or pop it out into a floating window.

  • Allow public embedding is off by default. It lets viewers embed the video on their own site with the Embed action.

Use the expiration date option to set a date with the calendar. After that date, the video page shows a not-found page. For more on expiry dates, read File transfer expiration dates in Tarkle.

For a link video, the third step offers Gated and a password option. To learn how viewers open a password protected transfer, read How recipients open a password protected transfer.

What viewers see

The video page shows the video player, the title and a line with the creator's name, the video length, the size and the date. The player uses your workspace name and logo. If you allowed downloads, the page offers the video for download. Each time someone opens the page, the view is counted on the transfer.

A password or email gate applies to viewers. People signed in to the workspace are not asked for it. After the expiration date, or when the transfer is disabled, the page shows a not-found page.
