How to connect Mailchimp to Tarkle
Connect Mailchimp with your API key and Audience ID, so the contacts Tarkle sends reach your Mailchimp audience.
Connect Mailchimp to a Tarkle workspace with your Mailchimp API key and Audience ID. After you connect, the contacts Tarkle sends go to the Mailchimp audience you name. This article covers connecting, syncing existing contacts and disconnecting.
Connect Mailchimp
Integrations are set per workspace. Open Integrations in the workspace you want to connect.
Type Mailchimp in Search integrations... if you need to find the row.
Click Connect on the Mailchimp row.
In the API key field, paste your Mailchimp API key.
In the Audience ID field, enter the ID of the audience that should receive your contacts.
Click Save.
Tarkle checks the key and the Audience ID with Mailchimp before it saves anything. The key must end with a datacenter code such as -us21, which is two to four letters followed by one to three digits. A key without it is refused with the message "That does not look like a Mailchimp API key". If Mailchimp rejects the key, you see "Mailchimp rejected this API key". If the Audience ID is not in that Mailchimp account, you see "Audience ID not found in this Mailchimp account". If Tarkle cannot reach Mailchimp, you see "Could not reach Mailchimp, try again".
Once saved, the Mailchimp row shows a Connected badge and its button reads Manage.
Note: Only the owner of the workspace can connect or disconnect Mailchimp. Anyone else who saves sees a Not authorized error.
Note: Mailchimp and Loops cannot be connected at the same time. While Mailchimp is connected, the Loops row is disabled, and connecting Mailchimp clears a Loops key that was saved before.
What gets synced
Tarkle sends each contact's email address to the one audience whose Audience ID you entered, with the first and last name when Tarkle has them. Tarkle sends a contact in these cases:
when you send a file transfer to a new recipient
when a visitor leaves an email address at an email gate, which is covered in Email gated file transfers
when a buyer pays for a paid transfer, which is covered in Share files and get paid with Stripe
Tarkle adds each contact it sends as subscribed, and it does not ask the contact first. For the feature overview, see email marketing sync.
Sync existing contacts
Contacts that were already in your workspace before you connected are not sent on their own. To send them, click Manage on the Mailchimp row, then click Sync existing contacts. The button appears only while Mailchimp is connected. Tarkle sends the workspace's contacts in batches. When it finishes, it shows a message with the number of contacts it went through. Tarkle does not show an error for a single contact that fails.
Disconnect Mailchimp
Click Manage on the Mailchimp row, then click Disconnect. Tarkle removes the API key and the Audience ID from the workspace, and it stops sending contacts to Mailchimp. Disconnecting does not remove or unsubscribe anyone in your Mailchimp audience. After you disconnect, the row shows Connect again.
What happens next
After you connect, new contacts are sent to your audience as described above. To send the contacts that were already in the workspace, use Sync existing contacts.
