Google Tag Manager integration

Google Tag Manager loads a container that you manage in Google, so the tags you publish in that container run on the public pages of your workspace. To use it, save your Container ID in Tarkle. Each workspace has its own Container ID.

Before you start

Copy your Container ID from Google Tag Manager. The field in Tarkle shows the placeholder GTM-XXXXXXX as an example. Tarkle checks only that the field is not empty and does not check the format, so copy the ID exactly as Google Tag Manager shows it.

Connect Google Tag Manager

  1. Open Integrations in the workspace you want to connect. Integrations are set per workspace.

  2. In the analytics section, click the Google Tag Manager card. A window titled Add Google Tag Manager opens.

  3. Paste your Container ID into the field with the placeholder GTM-XXXXXXX.

  4. Click Save.

Check, change or disconnect

Click the connected Google Tag Manager card to see the saved Container ID. The window shows the ID as text, with a red Disconnect button. The field for entering an ID is no longer shown. To change the ID, click Disconnect, then add the new ID with the steps above.

Clicking Disconnect clears the saved ID, and the card goes back to not connected.

Where the container loads

Tarkle loads the container on the public pages of your workspace: file transfer pages, file request pages, video pages, audio pages and Brand Pages. The same pages load the container when they open on your custom domain.

The container uses the standard Google Tag Manager script, so the tags you publish in it run on these pages.

Note: If you also enter a GA4 Measurement ID in Tarkle (see Google Analytics) and your container has a GA4 tag, the same visit can be counted twice.

What happens next

After you save, the card shows as connected, and the public pages of that workspace load your container.
